Converting retained earnings to cash
Reinvesting money in large-scale capital improvements can lower your tax burden over time. Revenues are the sums that a business earns through selling its products to its customers, while expenses are the sums that a business spends in order to acquire these products and to run the operations needed to turn them into actual revenue.
Cash and cash equivalents do not exchange hands in all revenues and expenses. Net income is equal to the sum of revenues minus the sum of expenses.
Retained earnings represent all earnings that the business has chosen to reinvest into its operations rather than distribute to its owners. Retained earnings is an equity account listed on the balance sheet and usually constitutes a significant portion of the equity section.
Cash flow statements list all cash flows for the period in question and divide them into three sections based on the nature of the transactions that produced them.
