The only issue that I still have is that I am a heavy user of Skype, as I work with people scattered across the globe, but I am unable to make video calls at the moment. The camera also works in Cheese without any problem.

Have you checked in Skype? Is video enabled and is the camera selectable in the drop-down menu?
